The Rolling Stones to release new track Criss Cross
The Rolling Stones have teased the release of a new song called ‘Criss Cross’, an outtake from ‘Goats Head Soup’.
Sir Mick Jagger and co took to social media to tease an upcoming expanded reissue of their 1973 album ‘Goats Head Soup.
They also posted a short clip of ‘Criss Cross’ – which is an outtake – and captioned the post: “Givin’ me a CRISS CROSS mind… (sic)”
The song and its accompanying music video will arrive at 2pm (BST).
Diana Kunst – who has worked on videos for the likes of Madonna, A$AP Rocky, James Blake and Rosalia – has helmed the promo.

The legendary group have previously reissued ‘Sticky Fingers’, ‘Exile on Main Street’ and ‘Some Girls’.
In April, the ‘Satisfaction’ rockers released their first original music since 2012, the reggae-tinged single ‘Living In A Ghost Town’, which they worked on last year and completed whilst in isolation amid the global health crisis.
The ‘Brown Sugar’ hitmakers – completed by Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts – referenced the coronavirus pandemic on the line: “Life was so beautiful, then we all got locked down.”
Frontman Mick hoped the song – their first since the singles ‘Doom and Gloom’ and ‘One More Shot’ from their 2012 best-of compilation ‘Grrr!’- would “resonate” with everyone in these unsettling times.
zxc2
He said that “recording some new material before the lockdown and there was one song we thought would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now. We’ve worked on it in isolation. And here it is.”
Whilst guitarist Keith added: “We cut this track well over a year ago in LA for a new album, an ongoing thing, and then s**t hit the fan.
Mick and I decided this one really needed to go to work right now and so here you have it.”
The iconic band are known to be working on a new album of original tunes – their first since 2005 LP ‘A Bigger Bang’ – and bassist-and-guitarist Ronnie previously teased it’s going to be “very diverse”.
He said: “[Work on the album is] ongoing. Taking on shape.
“Many different flavors. Very diverse.
“It’s going to be great. Once we’ve decided what tracks we’re gonna use.”

Amy Schumer wanted ‘Expecting Amy’ to be ‘real as hell,’ recalls ‘parenting fail’ of son’s name
Amy Schumer didn’t know what to expect when she was expecting.
“I didn’t know that you got so sick for so much of your pregnancy. Is that stupid I didn’t know that?” the comedian, who was vomiting blood at 14 weeks pregnant, asks in her three-part documentary “Expecting Amy” streaming now on HBO Max. Schumer, at the time, had not yet been diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes severe nausea and vomiting. Her sickness forced her to cancel part of her comedy tour in late February 2019. Gene, her son with husband, chef and cooking show co-host Chris Fischer, arrived a couple of months later in May.
For her new project, Schumer, 39, tells USA TODAY she handed over “hundreds of hours of footage” to “Expecting Amy” director and editor Alexander Hammer, an editor on Beyoncé’s Coachella concert film “Homecoming.”
Schumer says she filmed the documentary on “our own phones” with the thought that it might be nothing or perhaps “a kick-ass home movie.” But she couldn’t ignore a gut feeling that has served her in the past. “It was just like a lot of things in my life are,” she says. “I just have, like, an instinct, and I just follow it and see if something comes of it, and sometimes it does.”
zxc2
“Expecting Amy” shows Schumer grappling with the “different kind of hell” that was her hyperemesis, while performing comedy and preparing for her Netflix special “Growing” released in March 2019. It also depicts Fischer’s diagnosis with an autism spectrum disorder.
The desire to depict an honest portrayal of pregnancy motivated Schumer, who wanted to “keep it real as hell.”
“All my friends have babies, but I hadn’t been exposed to how hard pregnancy is,” she says, revealing that the doc sparked candid conversations among her close pals. “It’s really kind of painful, personal, intimate stuff that we – who’ve been friends for 30 years – had never talked about. So, I hope this opens up a conversation for a lot more women.”

Rudy Giuliani Called Police After ‘Absurd’ Sacha Baron Cohen Interview Prank
Sacha Baron Cohen is up to something. Just over a week after pranking a far-right rally into participating in a racist singalong, the comedian reportedly tried to prank former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani during a July 7 interview at the Mark Hotel in New York City. Page Six reports that Giuliani, who also serves as a personal attorney to Donald Trump, believed he was going to be interviewed about the White House’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. The former mayor said he agreed to donate the money being offered for the interview to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Giuliani told Page Six that in the midst of the interview, which was being conducted by a female interviewer “with a professional set-up of lights and camera,” a man came storming in wearing an outrageous outfit. The former mayor told the publication, “This guy comes running in, wearing a crazy, what I would say was a pink transgender outfit. It was a pink bikini, with lace, underneath a translucent mesh top, it looked absurd. He had the beard, bare legs, and wasn’t what I would call distractingly attractive.”
zxc2
While Giuliani would later identify the interview-crasher as Cohen, he told Page Six he did not realize it at first and reported the incident to the police. “This person comes in yelling and screaming, and I thought this must be a scam or a shake-down,” he said. “So I reported it to the police. He then ran away.”
“I only later realized it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen,” Giuliani added. “I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn’t get me.”
Other sources confirmed to Page Six they saw Cohen sprinting out of the Mark Hotel “wearing just a bathrobe.” Cohen was reportedly not apprehended by the police. Giuliani said he has no ill will against Cohen, adding, “I am a fan of some of his movies, ‘Borat’ in particular, because I’ve been to Kazakhstan…That was pretty funny.”
zxc2
The Giuliani incident would be the second Cohen-backed prank in less than two weeks. Does this mean Cohen is secretly filming a second season of his Showtime series “Who Is America?” or a new project? The comedian has yet to announce any official project. Showtime has said it is not in development on a second season of “Who Is America?,” which earned an Emmy nomination last year for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. IndieWire has reached out to Cohen’s representative for further comment.

Far Side creator Gary Larson publishes first new cartoons in 25 years
After coming out of retirement, the cartoonist says digital technology has allowed him to rediscover the fun of drawing
There are taxidermists driving taxis, there are bears picnicking on cub scouts. It can mean only one thing: the return of Far Side creator Gary Larson, publishing his first new work in 25 years.
Larson retired The Far Side, which was syndicated in almost 2,000 daily papers around the world for 15 years, in 1995, saying at the time that he feared that “if I continue for many more years my work will begin to suffer or at the very least ease into the Graveyard of Mediocre Cartoons”.
After promising a “new online era” last September with the launch of an online archive, on Wednesday he shared three new Far Side strips, alongside a personal essay explaining why he’d come out of retirement.
zxc2
Announcing his retirement in 1995 “felt good”, he said, as he had enjoyed not having to meet daily deadlines, and “after moving on to other interests, drawing just wasn’t on my to-do list”.
But Larson said he still had “intermittent” connections to cartooning, including drawing a family Christmas card each year. A few years ago, he decided to try working on the project with a digital tablet rather than with a pen.
“I got one, fired it up, and lo and behold, something totally unexpected happened: within moments, I was having fun drawing again. I was stunned at all the tools the thing offered, all the creative potential it contained. I simply had no idea how far these things had evolved,” he wrote. “Perhaps fittingly, the first thing I drew was a caveman.”
Learning how to draw digitally had been “a bit of learning curve”. He wrote: “I hail from a world of pen and ink, and suddenly I was feeling like I was sitting at the controls of a 747. But as overwhelmed as I was, there was still something familiar there – a sense of adventure. That had always been at the core of what I enjoyed most when I was drawing The Far Side, that sense of exploring, reaching for something, taking some risks, sometimes hitting a home run and sometimes coming up with ‘Cow tools’. (Let’s not get into that.)”
zxc2
Larson was referring to one of his most confusing strips, Cow tools, in which a cow stands in front of a bizarre (and somewhat disturbing) array of tools. It proved so puzzling to fans when it was published in 1982 that the cartoonist was forced to issue a statement explaining that “the cartoon was intended to be an exercise in silliness. While I have never met a cow who could make tools, I felt sure that if I did, they (the tools) would lack something in sophistication and resemble the sorry specimens shown in this cartoon. I regret that my fondness for cows, combined with an overactive imagination, may have carried me beyond what is comprehensible to the average Far Side reader.”
For now, Larson said, he is having fun, “exploring, experimenting, and trying stuff” – although the new venture is not, he stressed, a resurrection of his daily deadlines.
“So here goes. I’ve got my coffee, I’ve got this cool gizmo, and I’ve got no deadlines. And – to borrow from Sherlock Holmes – the game is afoot,” he wrote.

‘Glee’ actress Naya Rivera feared dead after disappearing from boat in California: ‘Prayers up’
Actress Naya Rivera, best known as the snarky Santana Lopez on “Glee,” is presumed dead after she disappeared from a rented boat on a Southern California lake Wednesday, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
The search continued Thursday morning to find the actress, 33, as authorities closed the lake to the public and search-and-rescue crews boarded boats, according to sheriff’s officials.
As of 10a.m. ET Thursday, about 10 people – some volunteers in red rescue shirts and deputies in uniform – gathered at a dock. Sheriff’s officials also said they were awaiting the arrival of additional dive teams and sonar equipment to aid in their operations.
Once a light fog burned off, a helicopter lifted off to assist in the operations. Deputies with the sheriff’s major crimes unit were also on hand at the remote area.
zxc2
What we know about Rivera’s boating incident
The actress arrived at Lake Piru in Ventura County, about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, around 1 p.m. Wednesday and rented a boat with her 4-year-old son, said Capt. Eric Buschow, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office..
Around 4 p.m., the boat was found with the boy inside but Rivera missing, and their vehicle still at the site. The child is now in the company of family, according to Buschow.
“We’re going on the belief that she did go in the water and we have not been able to locate her. So this may well be a case of drowning,” Buschow said. A search is ongoing for her body.

Online grocery sales rise 9% in June, estimated to reach $7.2 billion
With COVID-19 keeping many families at home, online grocery sales rose 9% in June to an estimated $7.2 billion, according to a recent survey by Bricks Meet Clicks/Mercatus. The survey conducted June 24-25 indicates an estimated 45.6 million households used delivery and pickup services for their grocery needs last month.
The survey also found families placed 1.9 orders per month, up from an average of 1.7 orders in May. The increase in online orders was driven by increased concerns about the virus and greater online fulfillment capacity offered by retailers, the release states.
“Many grocery retailers have demonstrated amazing agility since the health crisis started, building surge capacity to better meet the astronomical growth in demand for shopping online,” David Bishop, partner and research lead for Brick Meets Click, noted in the release. “Today as shoppers have more choice, the increased capacity is now actually enabling the continued growth of online grocery.”
In June, 44% of all households reported high levels of concern about someone in their household contracting COVID-19, up 2% from the previous month, according to the survey. The over-60 age segment reported a 9% increase in high levels of concern, compared with May, according to the release.
The Mercatus survey found the likelihood for a shopper to use a specific online grocery service again within the next 30 days is at 57%, up about 1% from May but still below the pre-COVID repeat rate of 74% during August 2019.
Interest in receiving an online grocery order (via pickup or home delivery) rebounded in June, with 32% of all households being extremely or very likely to use a service within the next 90 days, up 2% from May, according to the release. The interest in using online grocery services was strongest among households who used these types of services in June, with 57% of that group indicating they are extremely or very likely to do so as compared to 17% of the non-active households.
“Even though some retailers have seen sales decline within their respective business, the new reality of increased capacity across the market – and related greater choice (or options) for shoppers – means that all grocery retailers will need to accelerate their efforts to make shopping online even more seamless to thrive going forward,” Bishop said.
More independent retailers began offering online options for pickup and home delivery in June, and the release said larger chains also expanded their online efforts.
Walmart is reportedly planning to launch a new subscription service dubbed Walmart+ later this month, according to insiders familiar with the service. Walmart first talked about the launch of Walmart+ in February but opted to postpone the launch due to COVID-19 concerns.
Recode first reported the late July launch on Monday (July 6), and said the new service will cost $98 per year and provide same-day delivery on groceries and other items as well as fuel discounts and eventually access to video streaming. Walmart+ is likely an evolution of the retailer’s recently expanded paid grocery delivery membership program known as “Delivery Unlimited.” That service also costs $98 per year or $12.95 per month.

Whitmer warns she may toughen mask requirements after COVID-19 cases tick up
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer encouraged residents Thursday to wear masks to stem the spread of COVID-19 and cautioned that the state could make its mask requirements tougher in the future.
During a press conference in Lansing, as the number of new cases of the virus continues to grow, Whitmer said the state’s current policy requires people to wear face coverings in enclosed public spaces.
“We are reviewing that requirement and considering whether or not we need to take this a step forward to strengthen compliance,” she said.
The governor added later, “If we let our guard down, we could see a rapid increase in cases and deaths in Michigan.”
On Tuesday, Whitmer told CNN that Michigan would impose new restrictions aimed at stemming the spread of the virus if its COVID-19 numbers continue to grow. She said she would be “prepared to take heat” again about it.
“We’re going to continue to monitor the numbers,” the governor said Tuesday. “If they keep moving up, we’re going to dial back if we have to. And it’s the last thing any of us wants.”
Whitmer’s threat came after she said Wednesday the trajectory of cases is “very concerning” following the state’s largest one day total of coronavirus cases in seven weeks.
It also happened as the president and chief executive of the Henry Ford Health System said Michigan is at a “tipping point” in its fight against COVID-19 four months after confirming its first cases of the virus.
“The combination of rising case counts and declining vigilance by many is placing our state at a tipping point in our battle with this disease,” Henry Ford’s Wright Lassiter III said. “We cannot become complacent. We’ve come too far to yield hard fought gains now.”
A national nonprofit that’s been monitoring the spread of COVID-19 says Michigan is at a “high” risk of an outbreak, less than a month after listing the state as on track to contain the virus. COVID Act Now, a group of technologists, epidemiologists, health experts and public policy leaders, moved the state into the category, listing the state’s infection rate as high.

Supreme Court gives Native Americans jurisdiction over eastern half of Oklahoma
The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the eastern half of Oklahoma can be considered Native American territory, a decision the state previously warned could create “civil, criminal and regulatory turmoil.”
The 5-4 decision was written by Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch and joined by the court’s four liberal justices. The justices were considering the issue for the second time after failing to decide a different case last year, when Gorsuch was recused and the court likely deadlocked.
The case concerned an appeal from Jimcy McGirt, a Native American, who claimed his state rape conviction from 1997 should be overturned because Oklahoma lacked jurisdiction. Congress, his lawyer Ian Gershengorn said, never properly terminated the reservation.
During oral arguments in May, the justices reached back to 1907 to determine whether Congress, using imprecise language, failed to disestablish the 1866 boundaries of the reservation.
If so, virtually half of Oklahoma – home to 1.8 million residents and including Tulsa, where President Donald Trump recently held a controversial campaign rally amid a global pandemic – would remain Native American territory. That means Native Americans are subject to federal, not state, laws.
“In reaching our conclusion about what the law demands of us today, we do not pretend to foretell the future and we proceed well aware of the potential for cost and conflict around jurisdictional boundaries, especially ones that have gone unappreciated for so long,” Gorsuch wrote in Thursday’s decision. “But it is unclear why pessimism should rule the day. With the passage of time, Oklahoma and its Tribes have proven they can work successfully together as partners.”

116 Lawmakers Call for End to Transgender Military Service Ban
116 members of Congress sent a letter Wednesday to Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Attorney General William Barr to call for the elimination of the ban on open transgender military service. This follows the June 15, 2020 Supreme Court ruling that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects LGBTQ people from workplace discrimination. Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) spearheaded the initiative.
“This policy is an attack on transgender service members who are risking their lives to serve our country and it should be reversed immediately,” DelBene said.
On April 12, 2019, the Trump administration banned transgender individuals from serving openly in the military. The discriminatory policy denies transgender people the ability to enlist in the military and puts transgender troops at risk of being discharged for living openly. It also denies them transition-related health services.
“In light of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling…we urge the Department of Defense (DOD) to immediately update its policies to eliminate the ban on open transgender military service,” lawmakers wrote in the letter. “Additionally, to prevent further harm to transgender service members, we urge the DOD to instruct the Department of Justice (DOJ) to negotiate the end to litigation challenging the ban.”
“It’s past time for the Trump administration to end its ban on transgender troops serving openly,” said Mara Keisling, Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. “The policy is hateful and discriminatory, and puts at risk our country’s national security by purging brave transgender people from the military despite their honorable service to the American people. The administration must move quickly to right this wrong and protect transgender members of the military.”
“It’s crucial that the Department of Defense remove this unconstitutional transgender military ban and ensure any qualified patriot is able to serve,” said Modern Military Association of America Interim Executive Director Jennifer Dane. “Thousands of transgender service members have already more than proven themselves with honor and distinction, and this discriminatory barrier that has nothing to do with their ability to accomplish the mission must be taken down. We are thankful for Congresswoman Suzan DelBene’s leadership, and we urge the Department of Defense to take swift action.”
The transgender service ban was put in place against the recommendations of several former Surgeons General. Additionally, the country’s preeminent health care organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Medical Association, have all affirmed that transgender people can competently serve in the military.

Canon announces the EOS R5, an 8K-shooting pro mirrorless camera
Canon has announced the EOS R5, by far the highest-end mirrorless camera it’s ever made. Following Canon’s solid entry into full-frame mirrorless with 2018’s EOS R and last year’s cheaper EOS RP, the R5 is a serious pro-level flagship with a price tag to match. At $3,899 without a lens, this is now Canon’s second most expensive camera behind the new 1D X Mark III DSLR.
The R5 is built around a 45-megapixel sensor with a native ISO range of 100-51,200. The headline feature is that it can record uncropped 8K RAW video at 29.97 fps in 4:2:2 10-bit color, as well as uncropped 4K DCI at 59.94 fps, representing a major upgrade on the limited video capabilities of previous EOS R models. Canon says the R5 can shoot continuously at 8K for around 20 minutes at room temperature.
When shooting still photos, the R5 operates at up to 12 fps with the mechanical shutter and 20 fps with the electronic shutter. It has in-body image stabilization that Canon claims can provide up to 8 stops of correction in tandem with OIS lenses. Canon is also touting the R5’s autofocus system, with dual-pixel coverage across almost 100 percent of the AF area and 1,053 zones, plus the capability for eye-tracking with dogs, cats, and birds as well as humans.
The R5 is visually near-indistinguishable from a typical Canon full-frame DSLR. Canon showed a willingness to experiment with features like the touch-sensitive strip on the original EOS R, but it’s clear from the R5’s design that it’s intended to be a drop-in replacement for pro photographers and videographers who are used to DSLRs like the 5D series. The biggest difference for them will be the electronic viewfinder, though the 120 fps refresh rate and 5.76-million dot resolution should help ease that transition. There’s also a 3.2-inch 2.1-million dot vari-angle touchscreen.
If the R5 is a little out of reach or 8K isn’t a priority, Canon is also releasing a similar camera called the R6 at a lower price. It has more or less the same design as the R5 but uses the 20.1-megapixel sensor from the 1D X Mark III, meaning its video capabilities top out at 4K/60 or 1080p/120. The viewfinder resolution drops to a still-solid 3.69 million dots, while the touchscreen is slightly smaller and lower-res at 3 inches and 1.62 million dots. The R6 will cost $2,499 body-only.
Canon has four more native RF-mount lenses rolling out this year, including a 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1, a 600mm f/11, an 800mm f/11, and an 85mm f/2. The company is also introducing 1.4x and 2x teleconverters for RF lenses.
The R5 is set to be available at the end of July, and there’s a $4,999 kit option that comes with a 24-105mm f/4 lens. The R6, meanwhile, will ship toward the end of August with a $3,599 option that includes that same lens or a $2,899 kit with a 24-105mm f/4-7.1.

How Paper Mario: Origami King’s Puzzle Battles Work
Nintendo’s next big Switch game is Paper Mario: The Origami King, announced less than two months ago via a humble tweet and arriving on July 17. The Paper Mario series’ reputation has been a bit spotty as of late, but Origami King has by and large gotten rid of the more annoying parts of the last couple games, leaving us with pure unadulterated papery goodness.
Paper Mario began as a sequel to the 1995 Super NES game Super Mario RPG, but with each sequel, Nintendo’s deliberately moved further and further away from typical RPG genre conventions. It clearly wants the Paper Mario games to be an RPG-like experience in the sense that they involve Mario going on a grand world-spanning adventure, growing in power, and fighting in turn-based battles. What they don’t want is all the math stuff: grinding for experience points, swapping out accessories with slightly different stats, managing a pool of magic points, etc.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. It’s hard to think about Paper Mario’s evolution without dwelling on its missteps on the way, like the controversial Sticker Star for 3DS. That game had a clever central idea—using a book full of collectible stickers in battle—but then absolutely poisoned it by making collecting and buying stickers a total slog, as well as tying success in boss battles to finding specific stickers hidden somewhere in the world.
Color Splash on the Wii U fixed some of these issues—the in-game economy for its consumable card-based attacks was much more generous—but kept others, like requiring a certain rare card for each boss battle.

Bloody co-op romp Killing Floor 2 is free on Epic this week
Crikey, it’s all gotten rather gruesome on the Epic Games store this week. Co-op slaughter-fest Killing Floor 2 makes its debut on the storefront today, heading up this week’s free lineup alongside carceral break-out The Escapists 2 and lonely spacefarer Lifeless Planet. You know the drill – these three are free to grab ’til next Thursday, at which point they’ll be replaced by high-fantasy dungeon crawler Torchlight 2
Oh, we do love a bit of Killing Floor 2, don’t we? Tripwire Interactive’s gory horde ’em up is still one of our favourite co-op games on PC, a proper grindhouse horde mode that has you beasting your way through all manner of zombies, mutants, and cyborg tyrants. While it’s getting on a bit, the devs are still keeping the game updated with new events like last month’s tropical romp Perilous Plunder.
Sticking together’s the name of the game in Killing Floor – and to make sure a new store doesn’t fragment the party, Tripwire have made sure that rookies on Epic can play with their veteran Steam colleagues with full cross-play. There’ll be an update to the Steam version today, adding a “Steam to EGS” option on the main menu to let you pair up with your cross-platform pals.
Killing Floor 2 is also joined this week by Lifeless Planet, a hauntingly lonely game about a Soviet cosmonaut trapped lightyears away from Earth. “Every tone it attempts is struck with confidence and talent,” Ben Barrett wrote in his Lifeless Planet review, “from creeping horror to outright terror to reflective serenity. Give it a moment and you’ll be stuck with it until you’re finished.”
Rounding out the trio is sandbox-ey prison escape sim The Escapists 2. All three can be grabbed on the Epic Games Store until this time next week, at which point Torchlight 2 will take their place.
